Kevin Ross (politician)

Kevin Matthew Ross is an American businessman and former politician who served as the 20th Assessor of Maricopa County, Arizona from 1996 to 2005, when he lost his bid for re-election to Keith Russel in the 2004 Republican Primaries.
Early life
Kevin was born in Farmington, Minnesota on April 3rd 1962. He was the son of a local furniture store owner and attended college at the University of Minnesota. At the age of 18, Ross, along with his brother, moved to Arizona and together, opened their first company, known as Ross Brothers Mortgage and Investments, where Kevin served as President.
Political carrier
In 1996, Kevin Ross left the company and ran for the office of Assessor for the county of Maricopa. He went on to win the election in November and subsequently ran un-opposed for reelection in 2000.
In 2004, while running for a third term in office, Kevin was indited and subsequently convicted for using his office to obtain personal records about senior citizens and selling the information on to a third party mortgage lender.
However, following an appeal to the state supreme court, the conviction was overturned by an unanimous jury decision that found that while Ross' actions were unusual, they were not illegal as the list of names was considered public record. Regardless, due in part to the incident, Ross lost the election primaries to candidate, Keith Russel.
Post-political carrier
After leaving public office, Ross moved to Gilbert and re-entered the financial industry to found Desert North Mortgage, a company where he served not only as executive, but as the Chief Loan Officer as well. He continued with Desert North until 2009 when (as a result of the 2008 recession) the company folded.
Shortly after this, Ross once again started another mortgage company, this time known as Arizona Equity Lenders, he has served as the company's executive since then.
