Kevin Houston is a senior lecturer in pure mathematics at Leeds University, specializing in singularity theory.
In 1990 he obtained his BSc in Mathematics from the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne. After that he was a student at Warwick University where he got his MSc and PhD (1991 and 1994 respectively) under the supervision of Prof. David Mond. The majority of his PhD was published in Topology. His research is in Singularity Theory, in particular the topology of complex analytic spaces and maps. From October 1994 he was a research associate to Prof. J.W. Bruce in the Department of Mathematical Sciences at Liverpool University. He became a Lecturer in Mathematics at Middlesex University in September 1996 and was promoted to Senior Lecturer in September 1998.
In March 2000 he escaped to the North again and joined the University of Leeds as a Lecturer in Pure Mathematics in the School of Mathematics. In October 2001 he became the Deputy Admissions Tutor, and then the full tutor in 2003. When he began their entry requirements were BBB (A-Levels), now they are AAA. He was promoted to Senior Lecturer in March 2005, but it didn't take effect until August 2005.
