Kenneth Pickett
On October 29th 2007 at 3:30 p.m. Central Standard Time in the Town of Scott, Kenneth Pickett obtained the new Wisconsin state record for wild turkeys. The turkey was first set on the scale at Backwater Sports in Merrill, Wisconsin at 36 pounds. Kelly Gleason then advised Pickett to talk to the Department of Natural Resources to have the bird weighted on a certified scale. Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Warden Rick Peters gave the offcial weight of 35.00 pounds. Although the bird was large it only featured 1/8" spurs and 1 1/2" beard.
Currently this is the largest bird shot in Wisconsin, and also the second largest in the United States. The previous State of Wisconsin record and national runner up was shot by St. Croix, Wisconsin's Scott Cernohous back in 2002 weighing in at 34.500 pounds.
