Katie Herzog

</ref> is an American journalist who worked as a staff writer for from 2017 to 2020. She is also known for hosting the podcast Blocked and Reported with Jesse Singal.
Early life
Herzog was born in Asheville, North Carolina. Her father is Hal Herzog, a professor of psychology at Western Carolina University. She graduated from the University of North Carolina at Asheville with a B.A. in English literature.
Career
Herzog worked as a staff writer for in Seattle, Washington beginning in 2017, having previously freelanced for the publication. She was laid off from The Stranger in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Herzog's articles have also appeared in , Mother Jones, BuzzFeed News, , The Atlantic, and Slate. She is also a former staff writer of Grist.
In 2017, Herzog wrote an article titled "The Detransitioners" for The Stranger, in which she reported on people who reversed or halted gender transition. Shortly after publication, she began to receive hate mail. Seattle residents burned copies of The Stranger in addition to distributing stickers that labeled Herzog as a transphobe, and Herzog was ostracized by friends. The New York Times and The New Republic described the reaction to "The Detransitioners" as an example of cancel culture.
Personal life
Herzog identifies as lesbian. She currently lives in Washington. In 2020, she signed "A Letter on Justice and Open Debate" for Harper's Magazine alongside Blocked and Reported co-host Jesse Singal.
