Lavonne Jayne Adams

Lavonne Jayne Adams is an American writer best known for her poetry. She currently lives in Wilmington, North Carolina where she is a lecturer and MFA coordina tor for the creative writing department at the University of North Carolina Wilmington.
Writing
Adams' most recent published work is Through the Glorieta Pass, a collection of poems centered around the Santa Fe Trail in the time when pioneers were settling the West. The poems are based on journals and other records of pioneer and Native American women.
Her previously published chapbooks are Everyday Still Life (1999) and In the Shadow of the Mountain (2004). In addition, Adams has won many awards and published poetry in over fifty different venues.
Education
Adams graduated from the University of North Carolina Wilmington with her bachelor's degree in 1986. She completed a master's degree at the same institution in 1992, and in 1999 she completed her MFA in creative writing. Her thesis is entitled "Counterpoint" and can be accessed at UNCW's Randall Library.
Personal Life
Adams' hometown is Norfolk, Virginia, but she has since lived near Asheville, NC, and in Holly Ridge, NC. Adams married and had three children to whom she frequently dedicates her published works. She became a writer later in life, which she believes benefits her writing.
