Katherine St-Laurent

Katherine St-Laurent (born 1990) was one of the top 10 competitors in Canadian Idol 6, making it to ninth place in the competition.

At 17, she was the youngest competitor in the top group. While she is French-speaking (from Otterburn Park, Quebec, just east of Montreal), she is equally comfortable in English. She is the daughter of Sam St-Laurent, a former NHL hockey player and member of the 1992 Canadian Olympic hockey team.

In the competition, she showed strength in the rock music category, attracting highly favorable comments from the judges for her performances of Cat People (Putting out Fire) by David Bowie, and Love Is a Battlefield by Pat Benatar.

Other performances included covers of Total Eclipse of the Heart (originally sung by Bonnie Tyler, and later by Nicki French) and The First Cut Is the Deepest (by Rod Stewart).

In her top 9 rendition (July 21) of Move Over by Janis Joplin, the judges complimented her on the vocals but criticized her performance for not getting more fully into the emotions and spirit of the song. In the results show the following evening, she was eliminated from the competition, having placed ninth.
