Katherine Tay Rushlau (born June 25, 1993) is an American blogger, certified personal trainer, and beauty queen. She was a two-time Miss Maine first runner-up, Miss Maine National Sweetheart 2014, Miss Maine Day 2014, and Miss International 2013. She was the recipient of the Community Service Award at the 2017 and 2016 Miss Maine pageants, and the Academic Excellence Award in 2017. She also received the Miss America Academic Achievement Award in 2017. She competed on a platform of sexual assault awareness and prevention. Originally from Maine, she attended Emerson College where she majored in journalism and publishing. She currently works as a digital editor for Diversified Communications in Portland, Maine and is a certified personal trainer and blogger who trains and advises young women, including pageant and fitness competitors. Early life and education Rushlau was born in Fort Worth, Texas and was adopted by her parents at birth. She grew up in Dresden, Maine and is a 2011 graduate of Hall-Dale High School. Both a writer and reader from a young age, she was influenced by her aunt, a Maine-based author, to pursue a career in writing. She has an interest in health, fitness, and food writing and interned for the Wiscasset Newspaper in Wiscasset, Maine in 2009. She studied journalism and publishing at Emerson College in Boston and graduated early in December 2014. While in school, she worked at the Boston Globe Living/Arts and Metro, Boston.com Travel, and USA Today. She moved to Danvers, Massachusetts in January 2015. At the time, she worked for BLR, a healthcare publishing company, as an editor. In November 2016, she moved to Portland, Maine and began working as an editor for an integrative healthcare website at Diversified Communications. She created her blog and business, Katherine Tay—Queen of Fitin August 2013. She had not competed in pageants prior to winning the Calais, Maine-based contest. Winning the pageant qualified her to compete at the state competition in June the following year. Rushlau was second runner-up at Miss Maine 2014 and advanced to the National Sweetheart Pageant as Miss Maine National Sweetheart in Hoopeston, Illinois that August. She then went on to win the Miss Maine Day title in November 2014. She competed two more times at Miss Maine 2016 and Miss Maine 2017, placing first runner-up <ref name=":1" />in both competitions. Career Following her years in pageantry, Rushlau started a personal training and nutrition consulting blog<ref name=":0" /> and business, Queen of Fit, where she mentors young women, many of whom are preparing for pageants, fitness, and bikini competitions. Her weekly content includes workouts, recipes, product reviews, and personal stories aimed at inspiring individuals to adopt healthy habits and balanced lifestyles.
