Karate Coyote

Karate Coyote was a five piece independent indie-rock band from Columbus, Ohio that formed in June 2007. The band were noted for their collaborative music creation process and fun loving indie-rock sounds. Their first EP Move, was selected as one of the best debut's of 2008 in the Columbus music scene by Columbus Alive magazine. The band's debut full length album, INNER ANIMALS, was released on March 26, 2010 and their follow-up self-titled album was released at Skully's Music Diner in Columbus, OH 9/28/12. Karate Coyote played their final show at Independents Day on 9/21/2013 in Columbus, OH
History
In June 2007, Karate Coyote formed in the third floor attic of Ted Bigham's house near the campus of The Ohio State University. The band, (still unnamed at the time) consisted of Eric Vescelius, Nic Jados, Ryan Horn, Ted Bigham and Sam Corlett. Ryan and Eric, who had played together at Ohio University under the name "Larry Bird Forever" gathered the other 3 members following their graduation and return to Columbus in 2007. Nic's sister Kendra permanently joined after filling in for Sam at an early show, completing the six piece band. KC has noted that they later discovered coyotes also travel in packs of five to six.
With the release of the Move EP in 2008, Karate Coyote began receiving accolades from many publications including Columbus Alive, Cincinnati's City Beat and Chicago's LoudLoop Press. The early buzz culminated in special CD101 Day 2009 and CD101 Summerfest 2010 performances amongst The Cliks, , The Cribs and Matt and Kim. Karate Coyote have become a mainstay on CD101 fm's rotation and were also featured on other stations in 2009-2010 including All Campus Radio Network (ACRN) Athens, Ohio, WVQC Cincinnati, WYSO Dayton and WCRS-LP Cleveland.
In March 2010, Karate Coyote released their debut album Inner Animals to positive critical reviews. The video for the single [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yj5S-Wjx5y4 "ICU2(RN4A187)"] reached the top 8 of a Universal contest for the film Scott Pilgrim vs. The World The band was named the Hot Topic "Facebook Band of the Week" in November 2010 and spent the summer and fall playing MidPoint Music Festival and several other college festivals/shows alongside The Von Bondies, and The Crash Kings. In March 2011, the band represented their home city of Columbus at South By Southwest appearing at the We Are Columbus Showcase and the All Together Now Showcase.
During a live performance for the 2010 Andymanathon at CD101, Karate Coyote stated that they were writing and recording new material for a 2012 release. "Karate Coyote" was released at Skully's music diner in Columbus, OH on 9/28/12. The record was produced by Jerry DePizzo O.A.R. and Mike Landolt (Maroon 5 "Songs About Jane") and mastered by Brian Lucey (The Black Keys, The Shins. Initial reviews focused heavily on the lineup changes undergone by the band in 2010 and 2011, but also commended the excellent production, boy/girl call and response vocals, and the growth of singer Kendra Jados.
On August 28, 2013, Karate Coyote announced to fans via Facebook that they would be playing a final show on September 21, 2013 at Independents Day (a local festival in their hometown of Columbus, OH). They also announced that they would be joined by founding member/singer Sam Corlett. This would be the first time since late 2010 that the original 6 members of the band would perform together again. .
