The Kaneva Game Platform (KGP) is a game development solution geared towards end-to-end MMO games of the first-person shooter and RPG genres. KGP features many current graphic rendering capabilities, while providing back-end and networking features required for supporting hundreds of thousands of simultaneous players. It is developed by Kaneva, Inc., an Atlanta-based technology firm. KGP is an integrated, unified system that includes the game client updater/launcher, editing suite, artificial gaming intelligence, and server components. The business model on which Kaneva is based provides a unified platform so that game studios can focus on adding features to their worlds rather than trying to assemble and integrate disparate parts together. The idea is that studios may bring games to market faster with richer content at a much lower cost. KGP provides a comprehensive game design and runtime environment to create and run MMO games. It utilizes an extensible blade architecture for function-specific engines that allow for third-party or custom enhancements. The Lua/Python interface provides flexibility for gameplay and AI customization. In 2010 Kaneva extended the KGP with the release of the Kaneva 3D Applications. This new feature allows Kaneva members to create scriptable interactive experiences and host them on their own computers. These experiences are presented to the Kaneva member in an in-game menu. Information about Kaneva 3D Applications can be found at their developer site http://developer.kaneva.com. There is no reference to the old KGP or how to download it and it seems that Kaneva has moved 100% into 3D Applications. Components Kaneva 3D Explorer The Kaneva 3D Explorer allows a Kaneva member to enter the World of Kaneva and browse and play Kaneva 3D Apps with their friends. The 3D Explorer includes a powerful easy to use “build mode” that allows the Kaneva member to create new content without additional tools. The 3D Explorer has a web browser like URL that enables Kaneva members to navigate to different areas of the game as they would navigate to different web sites using Internet Explorer or Firefox. Kaneva 3D App Server Similar to the Kaneva Game Server, the Kaneva 3D App Server allows Kaneva members to host their own extension to Kaneva. In this extension they can create new zones and add gameplay. Kaneva Game Server The Kaneva Game Server is a modular system that can run one or many worlds and may have separate AI components plugged into each running instance of the game server. Kaneva Game Studio The Kaneva Game Studio was deprecated with the release of Kaneva's 3D Applications in early 2010. Most of the functionality of the Kaneva Game Studio was added to the Kaneva 3D Explorer. Including importing of meshes, animations, textures, sounds and particles. Artificial Intelligence (AI) The Kaneva AI component also provides support for non-player controlled agents. Status The Kaneva Developer Program is not specific about the number of developers using the platform to develop games and 3D applications. Kaneva has been promoting their platform with frequent contests. Their current contest is a monthly contest for $1000 USD and free marketing.
