K-1 Oceania MAX 2001

K-1 Oceania MAX 2001 was a kickboxing event promoted by the K-1 organization. It was the first K-1 Oceania MAX tournament and involved eight fighters, all of who were based in the Oceania region, with all matches fought under K-1 Rules (70 kg/152 lb weight class). There was also a ‘Super Fight’ between Ben Smullen and Takayuki Kohiruimaki, also fought under K-1 Rules. In total there were ten fighters, representing five countries. The tournament champion was Shane Chapman, who defeated Mike Cope in the final by split decision. As a result of his victory Shane Chapman would be invited to the K-1 World MAX 2002 World Tournament Final. The event was held at the Crown Casino Showroom in Melbourne, on Sunday November 11, 2001.
