Justin Johnston (born 1994-1995) is best known for his death in Costa Rica on June 2, 2011. Personal Life Johnston was sixteen years old when he died on June 2, 2011. He attended school at McLouth High School in McLouth, Kansas as a sophmore. Death Johnston was with his friends on a Spanish class trip to La Fortuna, Costa Rica, conducted by EF Educational Tours. He was one of a dozen students on the trip. It was a nine-day trip. Johnston and his friends were coming into the hotel (the La Cangreja Lodge) at about 4 in the morning. The students were returning to their rooms when a dog barked, which consequently caused the students to break into a run. Jorge Guevara, the hotel guard, allegedly shot a shot in the air, using a .22 caliber handgun, as a warning to the students. When the students didn't stop, Guevara shot at Johnston, and was successful. The shot was square in Johnston's chest. No other students were harmed.
