Junction 56 distillery is a distillery located in Stratford, Ontario, Canada. It was established by founder and owner Mike Heisz in 2015. The distillery focuses on making vodka, gin and whisky. Description Junction 56 is a distillery located just outside the main downtown of Stratford. The building the distillery is located in what used to be the Pounder Bros: Contractors and Builders Supplies yard. The building is currently shared between Junction 56 and Jobsite Brewery. The distillery is described as having unique and locally flavoured spirits. The name Junction 56's name comes from Stratford being a railway town. In an interview with Nelson Phillips for Rrampt, James Donnelly, who is the general manager for the distillery, talked about the name; " is about 15 feet from the one track, and a block from the other track, and a block from the junction of the two tracks." Importance of staying local The distillery prides itself on staying local. In the Rrampt article, Donnelly talks about the sourcing of local ingredients; "our corn and wheat come from Mike's cousin's farm." Covid-19 pandemic In March 2020, Doug Ford called on Ontario businesses to create products to help fight the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic. The distillery started producing hand sanitizer that would go on to be delivered to local hospitals and police forces. In November 2020, the distillery partnered with Rheo Thompson Candies to make a peppermint chocolate scented hand sanitizer.
