Julia Noulin-Merat

Julia Noulin-Mérat is a North American set designer born in Montreal. BFA Concordia University (Canada), MFA and MSc Boston University (USA). Her work includes the production design of opera, musical, theatre and television Guiding Light.
She studied design for the theatre in Montreal and in Boston. She began her career in Montreal, Boston and New York. She got her start as a designer at Théâtre du Nouveau Monde with la troupe des abonnés. She is greatly influenced by the artistic approach of Frank Lloyd Wright, Philippe Stark, Rene Magritte and Louis Kahn. Her work is a mixture of architectural hyper-realism with surrealism.
Noted work includes Say it Ain't So, Joe with Guerilla Opera, Così fan tutte with Commonwealth Opera, Haunted House with Audax Theatre. She is the resident designer for Commonwealth Opera.
She has collaborated with Daniel Roberts, Danielle Fauteux-Jacques, Eve Summer, Nathan Troup, Peter Flynn, Dana Tarantino, Greg Smucker and Sharon Daniels.

*Noulin-Mérat worked as a set designer on Guiding Light during its last taping year (2008/2009).
*Noulin-Mérat was a lab company designer for the Hangar Theatre, Ithaca, New York .
*Noulin-Mérat was thanked at the 2009 Tony’s by Derek McLane when he received his Tony for best scenic design for a play.
