Judith Svalander

Judith Svalander is a dance instructor in Crystal Lake, Illinois. She began at age 15 in Chicago with Stone-Camryn Ballet, Ruth Page's Lyric Opera Ballet, and a weekly television series on WGN-TV.

Her professional training began with Bentley Stone and Walter Camryn in Chicago, continuing in New York at American Ballet Theater and Joffrey Ballet Schools. She spent her professional years in Northern Europe dancing with various companies, training with Alexandra Danilova, Edit Frandsen, Vera Volkova, Birgir B. Bartolinof, and teachers from the Royal Danish Ballet. She was a soloist with the Swedish National Touring Theatre as well as the Swedish Ballet of Gothenburg. A Belgium dance program with Maurice Bejart was aired internationally and featured Svalander.

In the early 1970s, Svalander settled in McHenry County, Illinois to start her own dance school, and in 1979 she formed the Judith Svalander Dance Theatre. Her school is consistently recognized as one of the Chicago area’s finest schools by Dance Chicago. Svalander is the Artistic Director and continues to teach advanced levels of ballet and pointe.
