Judith Moses

Judith Moses was a candidate for the Ontario Liberal Party nomination in the riding of for the position of the Member of Provincial Parliament, which was won by Eric Hoskins on August 12, 2009. She previously ran for the Liberal Party of Canada as a candidate for the position of Member of Parliament in the federal electoral district of York—Simcoe, Ontario. She ran against the incumbent Conservative MP and Minister of Public Safety, Peter Van Loan.
Early life
Moses was born February 23, 1950, on the Six Nations of the Grand River First Nation near Brantford, Ontario on a dairy farm, the eldest of five children. After the farm became uneconomical, her father moved the family to Fort Erie, where he became an autoworker with Ford, while her mother started work as a nurse. She attended the University of Guelph, graduating with a degree in sociology in 1971 and attended the Oxford Centre for Management Studies in 1975.
Career
Moses' career in the public service spanned over 30 years. She has worked in many fields, including agriculture, rural development, export financing, youth programming, labour market policy, training and development (former ADM/CEO of Training and Development Canada), international development, and intergovernmental affairs. She eventually served at the rank of senior assistant deputy minister in Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada and in the Privy Council Office. While working in that department, she contributed to changes adopted into the Indian Act permitting the marriage of aboriginal women to non-aboriginal men without incurring the loss of their Indian Status. At present, Moses is past chair of HIPPY Canada, which delivers pre-school literacy programs to immigrant and aboriginal families across Canada, including in the Jane-Finch and Flemingdon Park areas in Toronto.
She was responsible for advocacy for the Federated Women's Institutes of Ontario and serves on the Partnership Forum, an advisory body on the Ontario non profit sector, reporting to the Minister of Citizenship and Immigration.
Personal life
She is married to Peter Lyman and has three sons: Matthew, Nathaniel and Sebastian.
