Josh Levy is an American attorney and politician who is the Mayor of Hollywood, Florida. Early life and education Levy was born and raised in Hollywood, Florida, and attended Hollywood Hills High School before earning a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Florida. He later obtained a Juris Doctor (J.D.) from Nova Southeastern University, graduating with Pro Bono Honors and a Certificate of Concentration in International Legal Practice. Early career and public service Levy began his involvement with the City of Hollywood as a law clerk in the City Attorney’s Office. He later served for 12 years on the city’s Planning & Zoning Board. In addition, he is a graduate of the Greater Hollywood Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Hollywood program and the Hollywood Police Department’s Citizen’s Police Academy. He was recognized for his civic contributions with the Great Neighborhoods Challenge Community Spirit Award. Political career Election as mayor In 2016, Levy ran for mayor of Hollywood, Florida, defeating former Florida Senator Eleanor Sobel and City Commissioner Patricia Asseff with over 51% of the vote. Economic development During his tenure, Levy's administration has overseen economic growth, with Hollywood’s taxable property value increasing from $13.2 billion to $17.4 billion between 2017 and 2020. He also supported the passage of a $165 million General Obligation Bond to fund public safety, parks, and infrastructure improvements. Community engagement and social initiatives Levy has engaged in several social initiatives, including signing the Anti-Defamation League’s Mayors’ Compact to Combat Hate, Extremism, and Bigotry, joining over 280 U.S. mayors in the effort to promote inclusivity. He has also taken part in cultural events, such as the annual menorah lighting ceremony at City Hall and the 2021 reopening of the Diplomat Beach Resort, for which he issued an official proclamation.
