Josh Burton

Josh Burton is an American short track speed skater. He is a former captain and founding member of SportsQuest short track Speed skating. He is from Midlothian, Virginia.
Early Life
Burton began short track speed skating in 2002 with his father, Steve Burton. Burton and his father enjoyed watching Apolo Ohno on the television and which encouraged his interest in the sport. Him and his father skated in Midlothian, Virginia at a local ice rink and on the weekends they would drive to a speed skating club in Maryland to practice. Steve Burton said in the Midlothian Exchange, “The first couple of years, my son and I would drive up to Maryland where they had a club and they had a good coach there, and we would spend the weekend up there and then take the practice back here and do it Monday night." Burton's father, along with some of his partners, purchased a rink in Chesterfield and soon after, he, Josh, and a couple of friends launched the Virginia Speedskating Organization. They hired nationally renowned speed skating coach, Sun-Tae Chea, who moved his family from South Korea to Richmond in 2006. He competed in his first US National competition in 2006 where he qualified for the Mens Open division. He joined a men's relay team that earned a silver medal in the 2006 US National Championship and finished fifth in the junior division 500-meter event.
