Jonny Gould is a journalist, broadcaster and sports sponsorship practitioner, born in Birmingham, England, in 1967. He is predominantly known as a sports reporter and presenter on television and radio, but is also a figure in the sponsorship industry, responsible for running a company specialising in promoting sponsorships. Radio career From 19, Gould was a disc-jockey and radio journalist for BBC Radio WM, BRMB and Beacon Radio before joining Clubcall. In 1988 at 21, Gould became sports editor at Beacon Radio before a freelance career in London two years later. He worked for BBC World Service, Independent Radio News, where at 25, he became the network's youngest ever Sports Editor, British Forces Radio as a radio sports journalist, IRN and Kiss 100 as a news reader, Jazz FM as a DJ and Spectrum Radio as a phone-in host. In 1995, Gould joined Talk Radio as morning sports presenter. He was an instant hit when he received one of the only positive reviews on the station from leading radio critics, Gillian Reynolds and Sid Smith. Talk Radio grew Gould's role and he stayed for five years taking in stints as Breakfast co-presenter and quiz show host. He has won two New York Radio Awards with co-presenters Paul Ross and Carol McGiffin in the category of best breakfast show, and a silver medal in the 1999 Sony Radio Awards in the same category with co-presenters Kirsty Young and Bill Overton. In the 90's, Gould co-hosted the Thursday Sports Hour with Robbie Vincent and presented Sports World on BBC World Service at the tender age of 25. In November 2009, he made a return to talkSPORT as a newspaper pundit as well as hosting the station's late night chat programme over Christmas. He presents regular shows on the station up to the present day. TV career Starting as a reporter on the BSB Sports Channel in 1990, he went to ITV's Football First (a live reports show every Saturday afternoon) and Euro Fever (a live studio chat show around the European Championship). He narrated Channel 4's Football Italia and co-presented Channel Five (5News), the highlight of his TV career, presenting Five News Early with Becky Anderson and then Katie Ledger. In 2001, Gould became the first touchline reporter on the new Premiership Plus football channel. Between 2002 and 2007, Gould reported Premier League matches for Setanta Sports including through their first year as a rights holder to screen matches in the UK. From 2008 to the present day, Gould is a regular newspaper reviewer and sports pundit on Sky News and Al Jazeera English. Writing In 2008, acknowledging the boom in blogging, Gould set up the Soccermongery, writing opinion pieces on football to accompany his appearances as newspaper reviewer at Sky News. Sportsmedia Broadcasting Ltd. Away from presenting, Gould formed Sportsmedia Broadcasting Ltd. in 1992, a broadcast news agency providing sports audio content to radio stations and internet websites, as well as programming for public relations companies, sports sponsors, governing bodies and retail chains. In 1994, the company started providing a sports bulletin feed to UK Radio stations with the establishment of The Sportsmedia Bulletin Network, the syndication arm of the business. Starting with 2 stations in 1994, the Sportsmedia Bulletin Network now numbers 120 affiliate stations across the UK, Ireland and Spain. Sportsmedia has covered every UEFA European Football Championship since 1996, Wimbledon tennis since 1994 and golf's Open Championship since 1995. In 1996, it launched a website providing sports news and interviews, created in partnership with internet company Datanet Marketing Services and later, the 365 Corporation. Between 2000 and 2003, the company created audio content for Sporting Life, Freeserve, Tiscali and RealPlayer and live streamed broadcasting to Sporting Life and Tote Bookmakers. It also developed a premium rate telephone service. In 2006, the company moved to new offices which were officially opened by Sir Geoff Hurst and Kenny Dalglish. The company's web service was relaunched to coincide with the start of the 2006/7 football season, providing podcasts. Finance news In 2007, Sportsmedia launched into the provision of finance news. Sister company, Businessmedia currently provides bulletins entiled On The Money and Money Talks to FM, AM and DAB stations across the UK. The network rapidly expanded in terms of its affiliate stations, starting with 24 in March 2007 expanding to 76 by November 2009. Businessmedia continues to flourish in 2010 with sponsorship and radio deals extending into 2012.
