Early life and education
John Muratori was born on January 28, 1966 in Connecticut. He was adopted and raised in Bridgeport Connecticut to a working class family. John has one sibling, an older sister Vickie who is also adopted. John's early life was filled with turmoil. His father regularly drank and verbally abused John and his sister. His mother suffered from severe psychological disorders which resulted in physical abuse upon John as a young child.
John left home at the young age of sixteen not knowing what his future would hold. He worked the midnight shift from 11pm-7am and then attended his classes in high school at Bullard Havens Tech. At 17 John set two life goals so he would not become a statistic - 1. Finish high school then receive ongoing education to better himself. 2. Develop a work ethic that would achieve financial independence. Not given the privileges others were allotted - he would need to outwork and self-educate himself in every opportunity within the business arena.
John credits in basic foundation of business principles from his paper route. Between the ages of 13-15 John grew his Newspaper Route to be the largest in the city. In his book Money by Design he shares the numerous financial lessons learned which started his journey of financial independence.
John was radically converted to Christ at the young age of nineteen. God had sent numerous individuals across his path that shared the gospel with him. John says that he couldn’t believe Jesus wanted to have a personal relationship with such an outcast like him. Relationship with Jesus continues to be the center of John’s life. He says “I didn’t come to Jesus for power, prestige or prosperity - I responded to His unending and unsearchable love for me - These earthly riches and positions have never been a temptation for me. I still weep not knowing where I would be today with Him."
