John Most (born April 11, 1977) is an American poet.
Biography
John Most, poet, was born Jonathan Eccard in Covington, Virginia, a small mill town in the Alleghany Mountains, the son of Emmitt and Sandra Eccard. His parents, both native Ohioans, moved to Virginia in 1971, where his father continued his work as a United Methodist minister.
Most and his brother, Alex Eccard, who is a CPA at Yount, Hyde, & Barbour, grew up in several towns in Virginia, including Covington, Waynesboro, Leesburg, and Lynchburg. In 1995, Most graduated from E.C. Glass High School and went on to attend the University of Virginia, double majoring in Psychology and Religious Studies. After graduating in 1999, he lived for three years in Richmond, Virginia. While in Richmond, he married his long-time girlfriend, Lynne Wesley in 2000.
Most and his wife moved to New York City in 2003. Most had relocated to Manhattan because his wife was pursuing a graduate degree in graphic design from Pratt Institute. While in New York, Most founded the arts organization AQP Collective and started writing poetry, publishing work in places like Lungfull! and Jacket. He also enrolled in the graduate program at the European Graduate School, and in 2007, graduated with a PhD in Media and Communications.
Most currently lives in central Virginia with his wife. In August 2008, Lynne Wesley gave birth to a son, Samuel Addison Eccard.
Poetry
Most had originally dreamed of being a novelist, but after arriving in New York City he turned to poetry, founding the little magazine Call: Review. A strong supporter of small presses, Most founded AQP Collective as the next step. It allows Most to retain significant control over his poetic output, whether that is in the form of visual, audio, video, or print poems. To date, he has released three books and two albums through AQP Collective.
At present, he is working on an ongoing poetry project, a series of thirteen poetry books. Each book has been or will be written by a different character invented specifically for this project. In 2006, a complementary audio project was launched with the release of Persephone. In 2008, the second album, Atelier, was released. MusicStack, discussing the spoken word genre, calls John Most a "top-selling spoken word artist." There are thirteen planned albums in total—one for every book in the series.
Hannah Nijinsky
Hannah Nijinksy is a psuedonym of Most. She is entirely fictitious and is not based upon any real person. In 2006, Most's book Persephone was published by AQP Collective, a work that is part of a larger work by Most that includes thirteen texts written by thirteen different characters.
