John Daniel Maher is an Irish Labour Party politician. He is currently a councillor on Cork City Council. Political career Maher was selected to run in the Cork City North East Ward in the 2019 local elections. He was successfully elected and received the second highest number of first preference votes in the ward. In 2019, he was selected to contest the 2019 Dail by-election in the Cork North-Central constituency. He was described by the Irish Examiner as a "the one bright point for Labour in the local election in Cork City, claiming their only seat on the council." Personal life Maher attended St. Patrick's B.N.S and later Mayfield Community School, before graduating from Cork Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Business Studies (Marketing & Management) Honours Degree. He is involved in St. Patrick's Scout Group on Summerhill North and is currently a Scout Leader with the Group. |
