Duncan Smith (Irish politician)

Duncan Smith (17 May 1983) is an Irish Labour Party politician and by-election candidate who has been a Fingal County Councillor for Swords since 2014.
Political career
Duncan Smith joined the Labour Party in 2008. Smith was the Director of Elections for T.D Brendan Ryan in 2011 and has been the Dublin Fingal Director of Elections since 2011. Smith was elected to Fingal County Council in 2014 and retained his seat in the 2019 elections. In October 2019, he was selected to run in the 2019 Dail by-election in the Fingal constituency, due to take place on 29 November 2019. In his campaign, he listed his priorities as affordable housing, sustainable transport and workers’ rights.
Personal life
Smith attended Mount Temple Comprehensive School from 1995-2001, serving as Headboy in his final year there. He received a Bachelor of Business Studies in 2004 and a master's degree International Security and Conflict Resolution in 2006, both from Dublin City University. He is currently a PhD student in International Security and the politics of nuclear weapons. He founded the Usher's Lake Angling Club near Ward River Valley Park, Swords in 2017.
