John Downey III

John Downey III (née Kato Downey, born 9 December 1967) is an Irish-American/French-Canadian actor/producer best known for producing a variety of daytime syndicated talk and court television shows while performing on various stages mostly in the southern California area since 1998.
He first gained national attention as an actor in Los Angeles originating the role of "Blanche" in a stage version of "The Golden Girls". After a successful run in the Los Angeles area at multiple theaters and venues in 2009, Downey went on a tour and landed in Miami at the Colony Theater in 2010 to do performances by SOLD OUT. The cast was awarded the 2010 "Best Ensemble Award" by Broadway World.
While working on the final season of ABC's Extreme Makeover Home Edition in 2011 his first feature film premiered at the Archlight in Hollywood initially called "Operation Belevies", but then later renamed Zero Dark Dirty for the DVD (2014) release playing Steven Spielberg's assistant, while he was performing in the Irene Ryan / Kennedy Center nominated musical "A Year with Toad & Frog". Then at SMC he was selected as a best actor candidate. This was the second time in a row performing at SMC that Downey was nominated for his work by the Kennedy Center / Irene Ryan committee for his work having previously been recognized for playing the role of Molina in Kiss of the Spider Woman in 2007 the first musical to take the main stage on campus on the new $19 million venue for the college.
As a singer he has appeared multiple times either as a solo artist, in group quartet or leading the choir at Della Reese's.
