John de Holcombe

John de Holcombe was a knight of the Crusades. He was knighted by King Richard the Lionheart for bravery in battle.
Legend tells that Sir John beheaded three "Turks" with one swing of his sword at the Battle of Arsuf. The Holcombe coat of arms depicts the heads of the three Turks on an azure field. As awarded by the College of Arms, the Flemish embellishments shown are not correct.
