John D. Jacobson

John Drexler Jacobson (b. May 11, 1929) better known as John D. Jacobson, is an American businessman, columnist, and author. Jacobson was born in 1929 to Victor and Ruth Jacobson, and was President of Jacobson and Company, Inc., a contracting company currently based in Elizabeth, New Jersey, for a long time. After his retirement, John delved into his longtime love of etymology, or the study of the origin of words. He co-authored with his wife Josephine the weekly syndicated column "Word Sleuths" for the Westfield Leader for a time, achieveing enough notoriety to appear on the Joe Franklin Talk Show on December 2, 1987. He then wrote two books, Toposaurus, A Humorous Treasury of Toponyms and Eatioms, both on the subject of etymology. Jacobson currently resides in Westfield, New Jersey, with his wife.
