John Carlino (born September 23, 1965 in Brooklyn, NY) ...
is a playwright, screenwriter, actor and comedian and ran for the New York City Council as a Republican and Independent candidate in 2005. He attended Christ the King High School in Middle Village, NY and Irving High School in Irving, Texas. He is a graduate of St. John's University.
John began his entertainment career as a playwright and screenwriter. His play, "A Wild Card Like Deuces" premiered at the Linhart Theater, NYC in 1995. In 1996 John wrote and directed the screenplay “Fenced In” which premiered at the 1996 IFP (Independent Feature Project) at the Angelica Theater, NYC and the New Orleans Film Festival.
From 2002 to 2005 John was a producer and partner at Moxie Films. Moxie produced and nurtured socially relevant Documentary film projects. Moxie was co-producer on a documentary that won the Special Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival in 2004 and which also premiered on the POV series for public television.
As a producing, writing and directing member of the Stupida Boyz Improv Group in New York City, John has written and performed stand-up comedy at the Gotham Comedy Club, Caroline's and the Comic Strip and other comedy clubs.
He has acted in several films including; Super Troopers, Bullfighter, Rockaway, and numerous shorts.
He continues to write screenplays and has most recently wrote and directed the short film "Greenwich and 11th" that premiered at the Albuquerque Film Festival and the 25th Annual Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival in 2010.
In 2005, John garnered the Republican and Independent nominations to run for the New York City Council, District Two. He received over twenty percent of the vote in an overwhelmingly Democrat district.
John is a member of the Players Club, Gramercy Park, NY and the National Arts Club.
