John Barry Ryan

John Barry Ryan, Sr. (September 7, 1874 - February 9, 1942) was an American author and financier.
Life
He was born to Thomas Fortune Ryan and Ida Mary, née Barry. He married Nina Murphy in 1896. The couple had ten children.
Nina Marie
His oldest daughter, Nina Marie, married Philip Acosta Carroll in 1920 in Ellicott City, Maryland, son of former Maryland governor, John Lee Carroll, governor from 1876-1880, and a direct descendant of Charles Carroll of Carrollton one of Maryland's signers of the Declaration of Independence. Charles Carroll of Carrollton was the only Roman Catholic signer of the Declaration and was reputed to be one of the wealthiest men in the colonies at the time of the Revolution. Following their marriage, Nina and Philip A. purchased Doughoregan Manor, the Carroll family's ancestral home in Howard County, Maryland from one of Philip's nephews. Her grandchildren still live on the manor as of 2012.
John Barry Ryan II
His son, John Barry Ryan II, married Margaret Dorothy Wolff Kahn, daughter of financier Otto Hermann Kahn. They had two children; a son and a daughter. Their daughter, Virginia Fortune Ryan, is the Countess of Airlie; she married David Ogilvy, the 13th Earl of Airlie and former Lord Chamberlain to Queen Elizabeth II. Virginia Ogilvy has served as a Lady of the Bedchamber to Queen Elizabeth II since 1973.
