Joel Rust

Joel Robert Rust (born 4 August 1989) is a musician and composer. He lives in London and studied composition with Jeffery Wilson at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama Junior department before going on to read music at Emmanuel College, Cambridge.
He came first in the senior category (16 - 18 years) of the BBC PROMS/Guardian Young Composer Competition in 2007 with his woodwind and brass sextet 'Paraprosdokia' which was said to be "more modest but it made no less impact". Professional composer Peter Wiegold was described as being "bowled over by the work's 'brilliant' opening" after hearing it. This was recorded and later broadcast on BBC Radio 3. Some of his work was performed for attendees of the , by the Britten Sinfonia, who described Rust as "one of the most talented young musicians" and a name "to watch out for". Tempo, a quarterly music journal, has described the composer as "skillful and polished", and opined that his material had a "level of quality older colleagues could have envied".
