Joe Manchik was a Green Party of Ohio candidate for Ohio's 12th congressional district (U.S. House of Representatives) in the 2016 general election and again in the August 2018 special election. According to some media, the candidate who said he descends from aliens from the Pleiades star cluster, was a third-party spoiler candidate who may have cost the Democrat Party the election, while Reason magazine called the reporting "tiresome shaming of third-party voters". Manchik is a 1975 graduate of Ohio Institute of Technology. At the time of his candidacy, he was a self-employed data networking contractor in Licking County. Political positions Manchik ran in 2018 on clean energy, national high speed rail, single-payer health care, restoration of the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994, and legalization of marijuana and hemp. |
