Stephene Ann Moore is a project coordinator for the University of Kansas and was the 2010 Democratic Party nominee for , losing the race to Republican Kevin Yoder. The seat had been held by her husband, Dennis Moore, for six terms before his retirement in 2010. Early life and education Moore is originally from Springfield, Illinois. She moved with her family to Johnson County, Kansas when she was 11 years old. Moore is a graduate of Shawnee Mission East High School. She helped launch a small business. While raising her children, she went back to school to earn her college degree. She graduated from Johnson County Community College and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Kansas School of Nursing, later becoming a registered nurse and specializing in obstetrics. delivering basic care and wellness education. She works to promote SunWise, a skin cancer awareness and prevention program provided to elementary schools, and on May 19, 2010, received the SunWise with SHADE Champion Award. Moore currently works with college students as a project coordinator for the University of Kansas’ Internship Program. She has been involved with Metropolitan Organization to Counter Sexual Assault Advisory Board, Temporary Lodging For Children, Mother and Child Health Coalition, SafeHome, Kansas University School of Nursing Board of Governors, Medical Mission Foundation, American Nurses Association, Kansas State Nurses Association, and American Cancer Society. She has raised funds for the March of Dimes and the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Political positions Moore has expressed support for the American Clean Energy and Security Act and the Affordable Health Care for America Act. 2010 U.S. Congressional campaign Moore ran against Republican nominee Kevin Yoder and Libertarian nominee Jasmin Talbert. Moore announced her candidacy on April 6, 2010 and filed to run on June 10, 2010. She has stated that if elected to Congress, she would join the Blue Dog Coalition. If elected, she would be the first spouse to succeed a living Member of Congress. During the first three months of her campaign, Moore raised $352,000. On October 16, 2010, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, said that they had stopped spending on advertising to benefit Moore in her eastern Kansas Congressional district race. On November 2, 2010, Yoder defeated Moore by a 21 point margin, 59 to 38 percent in Kansas' 3rd Congressional District. Personal life Moore has been married to Dennis Moore for 20 years. They live together in Lenexa, and are the parents of seven children and grandparents of nine grandchildren.
