Joe Casamassima

Joseph Casamassima is a former teacher for The Nativity School of Harrisburg , volunteer at The Joshua House of Harrisburg, and a current musician, AmeriCorps alumnus, public speaker , graduate student at Harvard University and marathon runner
. He grew up in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania and attended The Pennsylvania State University. Casamassima is known for his 2007 cross-country walk from his parents home in Stroudsburg to the steps of the Main Public Library in San Francisco and for his indie folk rock/alternative country band (sometimes billed as, Joe Casamassima and the Wet Blankets) or simply The Wet Blankets.
In the summer of 2010 he and his friend Greg Giemza established, "Miles for Mom: Coast to Coast for a Cure", a bike riding mission across the United States to raise money and awareness for Multiple Sclerosis and Parkinson's, neurological diseases that afflict their mothers. .
Casamassima performed on the track Hard Feelings from, Places the debut album by the Washington, D.C. indie rock band Georgie James.
He was also the delegation leader on the human rights crisis in Darfur for the Harrisburg, Pennsylvania area chapter of Amnesty International in 2007.
In the Summer of 2007 Casamassima walked 30 miles a day from his parents' home in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania to the steps of the San Francisco Public Library, joining the List of people who have walked across the United States. The walk was to raise public awareness of Multiple Sclerosis , a neurological disorder which afflicts his mother, as well as one in every 2,000 Americans. Casamassima, 29, is a musician, public speaker, AmeriCorps alumunus , teacher , and graduate student, and has devoted countless hours to a variety of volunteer causes.
