Jitendra Nath Ray

Jitendra Nath Ray (October 1900 in Pabna District - 27 April 1995) was an advocate for Indian independence, and also Congress President of Murshidabad district during the visit of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose in Murshidabad. He had also worked with Gandhi.
In his childhood, he was a bright student and got a double promotion twice in Nawab Bahadur School. He came second from West Bengal in Indian Civil Service examination during British colonial rule but he did not taken the government job due to his zeal to make India independent. He became an Advocate but left practice after few days as he stated as he had to speak lies for the sake of his clients. He joined Indian National Congress and became its President from Murshidabad district during which Gandhi had visited Bengal. He followed Gandhi and took him as inspiration, weaved khadi and boycotted foreign cloth materials. He wore khadi all his life till death. He had an immense vocabulary in English and used to know all the words from English dictionary. He presented as the translator between people of Murshidabad and Lord Mountbatten during his visit to Hazarduari Palace, Murshidabad in 1940's.
