Jim Hawker

Born 10th July 1974, Jim is an English businessman.
Early life and education
Hawker was born on July 10th 1974 in Huntingdon to Michael Hawker and his wife Susan. He was educated at Magdalen College School, Oxford and then graduated from the University of Sheffield where he read Natural Environmental Science.
Career
After graduating, Jim spent a year teaching tennis at American summer camp and also flying hot air balloons with Buddy Bombard Balloon Adventures.
Upon returning to the UK in 1996, Jim started his PR career at Harvard PR where he worked on a range of consumer and corporate PR accounts. At this time, Jim was part of a team that launched the Nintendo 64 games console to the UK market and then spent four years working with Nintendo launching their key AAA software titles including GoldenEye64 and SuperMario64. It was at this time that Jim met Eddie May, with whom he would later launch Threepipe.
In 2000 Jim left Harvard PR to become PR & Sponsorship Manager for the BigBusRide. Jim spent one year travelling aboard a an old London Routemaster bus as it travelled from Nova Scotia to Tierra del Fuego while a TV documentary was made following six young people on their adventures as they raised money for the international children’s charity, WarChild. Jim was media spokesperson on the trip and conducted interviews on Good Morning America as well as the Jay Leno Show.
In 2001 Jim returned to the UK to freelance at Hill & Knowlton to help the agency launch T-Mobile’s first mobile internet portal, T-Motion. He then joined Amazon.co.uk as a freelance marketing manager to help the business improve their co-op marketing around the recently launch consumer electronics division.
Jim then secured a permanent role as Associate Director with Maclaurin PR and was brought in to head up the consumer account for BT Cellnet as well as head up the corporate account for global IT outsourcing giant, EDS.
In 2004 Jim joined forces with Eddie May once more to launch Threepipe.
Since 2004, Threepipe has grown to become one of the most highly regard consumer and corporate independent PR agencies. Jim currently occupies the role of Creative Director and is responsible for creative delivery across all the agency’s clients. Threepipe has won numerous agency and client campaign awards including PR Week Magazine’s Best New Consultancy and PRCA’s campaign of the year.
Jim sits on the PRCA PR Council and is Chairman of the PRCA’s Entrepreneurial Committee. Jim was listed in PR Week’s PR Powerbook in 2010 and 2011.
Personal Life
Jim lives with his girlfriend Daisy Wallace and is a season ticket holder at Fulham Football Club.
