Jim DeBerry (born July 13, 1977) is an American Entrepreneur, Swimming Pool Industry Executive, Radio Personality, and Musician. Early life Born in Detroit, Michigan, DeBerry's family relocated to Central Florida in the late 80's and initially attended University High School, although due to touring in 1996 he participated in a Early College/Dual Enrollment program with earning an Associate in Arts from Seminole State College and later attended the University of Central Florida and Florida International University. His Father, Jim DeBerry, Sr. is a retired businessman and Mother, Linda DeBerry was a homemaker. His Father was French and Norwegian while his mother was of Irish and Yorkshire descent which provided a culturally diverse upbringing. DeBerry and his siblings were raised Southern Baptist. Jim spent time refining his skills working under award winning pool companies which included Clearwater Pools, Century Pool Service, and Leor Pools before becoming Executive General Manager and Company Qualifier of Pool Service America. Pool Service America, based in Miami, Florida at the time was the second largest Swimming Pool Company in Florida. Under DeBerry's direction the company was noted for it's charitable work and featured for charitable programs with the USO and Make a Splash Foundation. Also, under his leadership the company launched the highly profitable renovation division and diversified handlings of swimming pool projects of many affluent individuals in the Miami area. In 2010 DeBerry obtained the highest possible ranking as a State of Florida Swimming Pool Contractors License with the DBPR. Aqua Magazine featured Jim DeBerry related to his technical knowledge of Suction and Pressure Side Cleaners and why to choose them. In 2011 he became Managing Partner of Aqua Pool Dealer as well being featured prominently as the CEO in the company's youtube videos gaining over 100,000 views. As Aqua Pool Dealer's radio, television, and internet promotions featured Mr. DeBerry as the face of the company. Due to the humor and satire in the Aqua Pool Dealer videos, DeBerry established a cult-like following. On September 26, 2011 during an appearance on WTKS 104.1 FM's the The Buckethead Show, Show Host Jason Bailey spoke to DeBerry regarding career opportunities and did a comedy bit in the segment with Jim about pool owners and swimming pools. In 2011, Jim won an Industry Achievement Award. presented by Pleatco related to his years of dedication to the Swimming Pool Industry, specifically his exceptional marketing efforts. While DeBerry came up short in the overall category for Pool Guy of the Year, the Industry Achievement lead to his eventual enshrinement in Pleatco's Hall of Fame. In 2012, DeBerry advocated for home owners related to the Florida Energy and Conservation Code, offered ways to combat the new federal guidance regulation used by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission related to background checks with aptitude test, called upon as an industry leader with experience working with investors related to REO properties downfall and how to turn opportunities into cash, and featured in Pool & Spa News' Annual State of the Industry. In the August 2012 issue of Pool and Spa News, boasting over 90,000 followers on twitter Mr. DeBerry, was mentioned as the most prominent individual within the swimming pool industry related to Social Media. Musical career According to a radio interview with 91.5 FM WPRK disc jockey Keith Mercer, DeBerry purchased his first Fender American Standard Precision Bass Guitar for $350 from a local Music Store with the money he earned over the summer of 1991 by sweeping local parking lots, filling chlorine jugs, and mopping floors at a local swimming pool supply retail store. Ironically these simple beginnings laid the foundation and intertwine Jim's Career in Swimming Pools and Music. DeBerry would later go on to play Washburn jazz bass guitars and incorporated the unique semi-tone tuning style his most recent band went away from his Punk Rock roots and focused more towards Modern Rock, in which fans felt along the lines of Jeremy Camp as they sounded more Christian Rock which allowed them to appeal to a larger fan base. DeBerry's last single, "Sunny" was with the band, A King's Ransom which prominently featured Mr. DeBerry deep and octave tone bass riffs was re-released through iTunes in 2012. was about Jim's personal life tribulations after achieving early success and how his message of keeping faith would lead to better days to come. Although the band built a loyal following, in 2006 after completing his record contract with Precision Recording Group, Jim elected to disband A Kings Ransom. DeBerry later invested into concerts halls, as promotions manager, who has the freedom to chose which bands to support as part of his job. While running the third largest concert venue in Orlando, Florida trailing only the House of Blues and The Hard Rock Live in capacity. DeBerry also ventured into radio broadcasting, and later invested his earnings of well over six figures annually from touring, merchandise, and recording sales in the Swimming Pool Industry while still passively active as a musician. Radio career DeBerry was the main content provider for the radio program "The Unfunny Serious Show" DeBerry co-hosted the show along with radio personality Robin Nathan Hood from 1999-2002. The program featured various musical guest whom DeBerry had met while on the road touring as a musician, as well the program featured actors and other entertainers, most notably, Bruce Willis and Michael Winslow. The radio program was broadcasted from Sanford, FL at 1400 AM WTRR studios DeBerry sold sponsorships and syndication's of the variety and talk radio program show to 5 additional markets throughout the United States, which held number 1 ranking for 8 consecutive weeks DeBerry sold off the remaining sponsorship and advertiser agreements to various companies. The Unfunny Serious Show's last live show ended with an interview and in studio performance by The Supervillains August 3, 2002.
