Jerrold L. Patz

Jerold L. Patz (born, 26 February, 1946) is a pioneer and inventor in Information Technology (IT), computers and data management. In the period between 1984 and 1988, he served as Director of Information Systems Planning for the Boston public schools (BSPP), he revamped their entire data systems, instituting methodologies that became the standard for all existing data storage plans.
Prior to his information technology innovations, there was no set protocol for data to be entered, stored and transferred between individuals or agencies. He established a “generic writing” system which was first adopted, by statute, by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and thereafter by all of the industry.
His authorship of “A data Communications Plan for the Commonwealth ” was the basis for Massachusetts legislation requiring all data/communications to conform to his single standard, a protocol which became an industry standard.
Thereafter, he continued to work as Director of Information Systems for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. As a freelance consultant, he has innovative systems for such clients as CompuCom, Trellis, Xerox, for whom he was National Director of Consulting and Chief Technology Officer (Eastern Region).
First a graduate of Boston Latin School (1963), he returned to teach math and computer science there between 1968 to 1976, chairing the Mathematics curriculum committee. He is also certified to teach English, Latin, and Hebrew.
At the University of Massachusetts, where he received a B.A. in philosophy in 1967, and his M.A. in Philosophy, he was a classroom and study assistant in his major of Symbolic Logic. Thereafter, he received a diploma from Harvard University, Kennedy School of Government (1987) in their Program for Senior Executives.
Jerrold Patz is a frequent author and speaker in the area of IT. Chief among his articles, having published and lectured at dozens of professional conferences, chief among them his articles for Enterprise Network and Networld.
A world, traveler, he has often lectured abroad on his expertise, He has visited fifty countries and every continent except Antarctica. Patz married his wife, Naimah Naimah Akif binti Zakaria (a Malaysian nurse he met in Istanbul in the 80s) in Abu Dhabi on 6 June 1998. His travels are viewable at www.patz.com.
