Jefferson Stein

Jefferson Stein (born February 10, 1989) is an American filmmaker. He directed the film, Burros, which was selected for the 2020 Tribeca Film Festival. His 2015 film, Tumble Dry Low, premiered at the Seattle International Film Festival, Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival, and Maryland Film Festival, and won a Gold Remi award at 48th WorldFest-Houston International Film Festival. It became one of the most-watched dramatic short films on YouTube. He has directed documentary shorts featuring athletes Johny Hendricks, Donald Cerrone, Courtney Lee, and Candace Parker, and Ismael Cano, Jr. from Los 5. He graduated from Hillcrest High School and the University of Texas at Austin. He attended Art Center College of Design and studied under Allen Daviau where as a student, he won a Silver Addy Award at the American Advertising Awards.
Beyond his student work, Stein made the film, Tumble Dry Low, in 2015 which premiered at the Seattle International Film Festival, Tallinn Black Night Film Festival, San Diego International Film Festival, and won a Gold Remi award at the 48th WorldFest-Houston International Film Festival. After going online, the film passed 2.5 million views on YouTube, becoming one of the most watched dramatic short films on the platform and the 18th most watched film on Omeleto. and Ivan Kander from Short of the Week wrote "fortunately, Stein’s film is sentimental but never schmaltzy. It feels honest where so many other similar shorts feel calculated."
Stein's 2015 television advertisement for American Airlines was selected for Shoot's Best Work You May Never See. In 2016, he made documentary short films with UFC Welterweight Campion Johny Hendricks and UFC contender Donald Cerrone. In 2018, Stein directed a series of short documentary pieces for VICE starring NBA basketball player Courtney Lee and Candace Parker about becoming the first female athlete to slam dunk in a basketball game. In 2019, Stein made a short film for Apple Music which starred Ismael Cano, Jr. from Los 5 and featured an unreleased song, "Magic Will Find You" by Jillian Edwards.
Stein's short film, Burros, was selected for the 2020 Tribeca Film Festival. The film focuses on the Tohono O’odham Native Americans and migration at the Mexico-United States border.
