Jeff Stabley

Jeff Stabley (born 1961) is a composer, studio jazz drummer, and percussionist. He is currently a professor and director of the Jazz and Percussion ensembles at York City College. Stabley is the music director of the annual Jazz Vespers concert, that honors Dr. Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. He has directed this concert for close to 20 years.
Biography
Stabley was born in York, Pennsylvania in 1961. He got his B.A. in Percussion at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1983, and went on to teach in the York City School District until 1986. He lectured at Messiah College from 1997 until 2002, and became the Director of Contemporary Music at Zion Lutheran Church from 2002 until 2016.
Music career
Stabley has played with notable musicians such as: Greg Kihn, Donnie and Marie Osmond, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Eddie Money, Autoro Sandivat, Tim Warfield, Kirk Reese, Steve Meashey, Skip Heller, Don Collins, Paul Carr, John Swana, Chris Bacas, Jimmy Wood, Don Carn, Steve Rudolph, Ronnie Waters and many others. Stabley also teaches music at the Lincoln Intermediate Unit #12 and is an active member of the Artist Showcase series, actively participating in a number of local concerts. Stabley has won York’s “Mayor’s White Rose Award” in April 2016. Additionally, Stabley directs York’s "Jazz in the City" initiative. This monthly event hosts musicians from the surrounding areas at the Strand-Capitol Performing Arts Center.
Locally, he plays with Kirk Reese, Tim Warfield, and Jim Wood. He also plays keyboard with local hip-hop group Compound.
Studio albums
Stabley was a session drummer on a number of notable albums by Greg Kihn, including Mutiny (1994) and Horror Show (1996). Stabley also played percussion in 1998’s Viewpoints by The Reese Project. In 2004, he appeared on Dave Wilson's "Through the Time". The release received airplay on WRTI-FM in Philadelphia, and was played on 30 other jazz stations nationwide. 2015 saw the release of "Impressions," by Kirk Reese, Steve Meashey, and Jeff Stabley.
Stabley released his solo album, Music to Listen to Music to, in 2009.
