Jeff Milchen

Jeff Milchen is a non-profit entrepreneur, writer and speaker best known as an advocate for independent businesses, community economic vitality and representative democracy. He is a co-founder of the American Independent Business Alliance (AMIBA), where he is the organization's most frequent public speaker. Milchen frequently facilitates trainings for communities organizing Independent Business Alliances, "buy local" campaigns, pro-local policy and other programs to enhance local economic development based on local entrepreneurs.
Independent Business Alliances are based on a model Milchen pioneered in Boulder, Colorado in 1997 with the Boulder Independent Business Alliance. Milchen also served as executive director of Reclaim Democracy, a group focused on revoking corporate control over law and politics and revitalizing grassroots democracy. Additionally, he is a co-founder of the Citizens' Debate Commission.
Milchen speaks frequently around the country on issues addressed by those organizations and writes periodically for a wide range of publications, including The Washington Post, Chicago Tribune, Business Week, Christian Science Monitor, The Ecologist, Inc. magazine, Adbusters and many others. He resides in Bozeman, Montana.
