Jean Patrick Hein (Québec, Canada, 1970 - Vancouver, Canada, 2 September, 1990) (some sources claim the surname is spelled Hien) was a track marshall who died in an accident at the 1990 Molson Indy Vancouver race. He was one of four marshalls helping to push start Ross Bentley's car on lap 17. Bentley's car started and the marshalls ran towards the wall, not having spotted the car of Willy T. Ribbs, which came around the corner at that exact moment. Hein, along with three other marshalls, ran into the path of Ribbs' car. One marshall was not hit at all, but three of them collided with the rear wheel. Two of these managed to "bounce" off the wheel. Both were thrown into the air but sustained only minor injuries, one suffering a broken jaw and the other a broken ankle. Jean Hein, however, was caught by Ribbs' left rear tire and his body was literally wedged in between the car chassis and the wheel. With Ribbs' car still in motion, Jean's body then came loose as the wheel turned, but by then he had suffered significant head injuries from its passage through a virtual "grinder". The other marshalls and several ambulances quickly came to his aid but Hein died later that evening at Vancouver General Hospital.
