Jay Wud, (b. August 1, 1983 in Beirut) is a Lebanese independent guitarist, singer, songwriter & producer, based in Dubai. His music incorporates a wide variety of genres, including blues, metal and rock. Wud has written two albums: debut album New Blood and album False Utopia.
Early Life
As a child, Wud listened to such artists as Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin and Jimi Hendrix. He first played guitar at the age of twelve, and is self taught. Wud played with several bands while he was living in Lebanon, most prominent of which were Low Budget Orchestra, The Kordz, Paulak, & Force.
Career
Pre New Blood (2007-2009)
Before starting his career, Wud collaborated with several musicians, and says he played for bands that played in gigs in which the bands supported Aerosmith and Robert Plant.
Jay Wud left Lebanon in 2007, moving to Dubai. Wud started performing with Paulak in shows at the Dubai Jazz Festival. He also started performing for another band called "Funk Radius" with Elie Afif (bass)and Rony Afif (drums) while he sung and played guitar.
New Blood (2009-2010)
Wud started writing his own music and developing his songwriting skills with a job as a music producer/sound engineer at Mindloop Studios, where his debut album New Blood was created. Jay recorded, mixed and produced New Blood himself. The launch of this album in Lebanon and Dubai was the start of Wud's career.
Incomplete Heart and False Utopia (2011-2012)
After performing in Lebanon and Dubai for two years, Jay started working on his second album False Utopia. However, unlike his solo effort New Blood, rock drummer Pascal Elias and good friend of Wud joined as he started writing new tracks. Later into the album, bassist Imad Jawad joined the band. The three of them arranged the album and recorded the drum parts at EQ Studios in Lebanon. Guitars, vocals and bass were recorded and produced at Mindloop Studios in Dubai by Wud.
Jay's first single Incomplete Heart was released with a music video in August 2012. The video was produced by Wud's manager Lara Pulton, and directed by Fares Sokhon and D.O.P Ziad Oakes.
The band started their regional tour in early 2013 with a slot to support Guns N' Roses and Skunk Anansie. A line of shows followed in India, Lebanon, Abu Dhabi and Dubai to support the album release. Wud was invited at Dubai Music Week to perform for producer Quincy Jones, Timbaland and Will.i.am.
Wud is currently working on his third album, scheduled to release early 2015.
