Chest rockwell

From Bowling Green, Kentucky, Chest Rockwell is a progressive indie rock band. Taking their name from a character in the movie Boogie Nights played by John C. Reilly's character, Reed Rothchild, the band began in early 2004 as a solo act and then formed into a full band in the summer of that year.

History

Greatest Hits V. 3 and early demos (2004)
After the break-up of long time band Pimpslap, Josh Hines started writing songs and recording them using an acoustic guitar, microphone, and keyboard into a 4-track recorder in his bedroom and parents' garage. February of 2004 saw the release of the 8 song e.p. Greatest Hits V.3. This was a very limited self release and no shows were played out to support it. Two months later in April the never released full-length Rad to the Max cd was being readied for release when the formation of the full band started. Once the band took shape Josh decided not to release another cd of solo material under the band's name so the 12 song acoustic album was shelved and has never been heard by anyone. The band played their first show in July of 2004 and was well recieved in the local community. The fall of 2004 saw the band record 4 songs at MTSU with producer Jon Craig and this was released late that year as a give-away at shows in the local area and in some regions in Germany and France as Josh traveled Europe at the end of the year.

Back to Square One (2005)
The year 2005 saw the band's sound start to become more pronounced as a full band and less as acoustic guitar songs with bass and drum backing. For April Fool's Day another promotional give-away cd was released featuring the previously recorded 4 songs plus some live tracks and a demo. Chest Rockwell continued to play many shows in the area and write more songs for their first full-length album. In August of 2005 they entered Negative Earth Studios in Auburn, KY under producer Chris Hightower (who was in the band Commander with Josh) and recorded 5 songs. It was decided that these 5 songs would be packaged with the 4 previously recorded songs from MTSU the previous fall and 1 song Josh recorded on the infamous 4-track in his garage also from the fall of 2004. After completion of the album guitarist Seth Wilson joined up to help fill out the band's sound. Artist Matt Simone provided the art and layout for the album.

Chest Rockwell Vs. The World (2006/2007)
Soon after Seth's joining the band a whole new sound started to develop that involved much more texture and space along with the further expansion on the progressive rock tendencies they had always had. A mere 7 months after the release of their first full-length album, Chest Rockwell began recording their second full-length to be titled Chest Rockwell Vs. The World in July of 2006 at their practice space known as The Lair. The album consisted of 8 tracks all flowing into eachother to create a giant 42 minute long piece of music. The band once again recruited producer Jon Craig and artist Matt Simone to round out the details. Chest Rockwell Vs. The World was released March 2nd, 2007 and recieved extremely positive critical reviews from various progressive rock magazines and websites all across America and Europe. The band played out extensively in support of the album and took a break from songwriting.

Flavor (2007)
After taking a break from writing songs for the last half of 2006 and first part of 2007 the band decided to record their 1 new song titled 'Mortal Universe'. With the help of producer Jon Craig, Chest Rockwell entered Java Jive Studios in Nashville, TN in May and laid down the song. A month later in June, the band decided to re-record a song from the first album after some changes had been made and recorded the song '7' at RCW Studio in Bowling Green, KY with engineer Rory Willis. A sampler cd titled Flavor was released in August of 2007 featuring 'Mortal Universe', '7', and various songs from the first 2 full-length albums.

Total Victory (2008)
In June and July of 2008 Chest Rockwell once again recruited producer Jon Craig and entered Java Jive Studios in Nashville, TN. The album is planned as their 3rd full-length set to be at least 10 tracks with a release date to be determined.
