Gascan Ruckus are an independant Alternative Punk Rock Band from Middletown, County Armagh. The band have played gigs and festivals across Northern Ireland including Radar at Queen's University Belfast Students' Union, Glasgowbury Festival , Pigstock and Sunflowerfest. The band have also extensively toured the Island of Ireland as well as Great Britain. Gascan Ruckus consist of: Michael Woods on Vocals/Guitar, Declan Mc Bride on Guitar/Backing Vocals, Conor Langan on Bass/Backing Vocals and Ross Mc Kernan on Drums/ Backing Vocals. Career Background The band members are all childhood friends and attended school together. They started to learn their respective instruments at an early age and decided to play covers of their favourite songs. After years of playing covers in Music Venues and Pubs under the name "Shenanigans", in 2006 the band changed their name to Gascan Ruckus and decided to start writing their own original material. When the band moved to Belfast for University, they started to play more gigs with other local acts. They continued to play throughout the island in independent rock venues in Belfast, Derry and Limerick. They played at the local music festival Glasgowbury two consecutive years 2010 & 2011. In May 2011 they went on their first tour of the UK, playing in Cities such as Edinburgh, London and Liverpool. Their live shows usually result in band members colliding or injuring each other on stage. They also make use of local colloquial terms, and emphasise their origins from County Armagh and being Culchie's. Discography Gascan Ruckus first recording was their self-titled E.P. and releasing it in 2007. This EP has received airplay by Radio Broadcaster Gerry Anderson on his Radio show on BBC Radio Ulster. The band then recorded the single Wolves Terrain in 2009 and was released that October and got to number one on the independent NI Chart, and stayed there for two consecutive weeks. They then in December 2009, went to Start Together Studios in Belfast to record their new 5 Track EP which included a re-recording of previous single "Wolves Terrain". The EP was released in May 2010 and was named under the title track "The Governor". In March 2011, the band went to record at Michael Mormecha's house who is the singer and guitar player of Northern Irish band Mojo Fury. "Trucker Filth" which was recorded at these sessions was released as a single in May 2011 with their song "Don't Fret" as the B-Side. Videography In 2011, Gascan Ruckus was filmed by local film maker Will Mc Connell for Bandwidth Film's and was titled "In Stores Now#51". The band was recorded in Bassist Conor Langans garage. The footage was split into four videos which is made up of two performances of the bands songs "Trucker Filth", "Don't Fret" and two acoustic performances of a stripped back version of their own song "Rise Up" and a cover of the Quarrymen's song "In Spite Of All The Danger".
