Lindsey Stamey is a musician from Morristown, Tennessee. She is the current lead singer of the Knoxville band, The Few. She was the lead singer of the now defunct band, Vertigo, also known to early fans as Melatonin. About Stamey was born in Morristown, Tennessee, on June 10, 1984, and she graduated from Morristown High West in 2002. She briefly attend Carson Newman College as an art major but decided to pursue a career in music. In her professional music career, Stamey has fronted two national touring acts, Vertigo and The Few. She is known to fans for having a powerful and electric stage presence that is similar to that of Karen O of Yeah Yeah Yeah's) and Maynard James Keenan of Tool. It is not uncommon at a show to see Stamey freestyle dancing, painting herself or her band mates, acting out scenes from famous films, running across bar tops and tables, or swinging from the stage lighting. Her voice is referred to by many fans by its nickname the "Hair Raiser" because of her expressive vocal range that has the ability to make every hair on your body stand on end. Lyrically, her songs tend to deal with deeply personal situations and sometimes heavy or raw subject matter, her vocal delivery is poetic and tends to be full of influences from many different genres. Her vocal style is a quirky soft/loud combo that has led many to call her the "Björk of the South." Vertigo Stamey was the lead singer and songwriter for Knoxville alt-rock band Vertigo from 2001-2009. Vertigo started out under the name Melatonin but soon changed to Vertigo after too many fans thought the name of the band was melanoma. Vertigo toured for several years opening for bands like 10 Years, Flyleaf, Heart, Gin Blossoms and Gavin Rossdale, as well as headlining two small national tours of their own. Vertigo released two studio albums. In 2006, they released their debut album, and miles to go before we sleep, to rave reviews from several national and local publications. The album was recorded by Travis Wyrick of Lakeside Recording Studios. The single, "These Adult Bones", got national airplay on radio stations in the US and on internet radio. A video was made for the single "These Adult Bones" by famed music video director Ramon Boutviset and is available on Youtube. In 2009, they released their final studio album, the coming and the going, again to national and local acclaim. It was recorded by Fahrenheit Studios in Johnson City, Tennessee. They played both SXSW festival and the Bonnaroo festival on their last national tour. In 2009, they were voted #18 on the list of "Best Knoxville Bands Ever". The main lineup of band members in Vertigo was always Lindsey Stamey (vocals), Justin Stamey (drums), and Joel Rudnick (guitars). They had several bass players over the years including Shawn Parella for the first album and tour, but Nathan Engels played with them on the majority of their tours and on the last studio album. Vertigo broke up in 2009 due to creative differences and a lack of support from a major label. The Few The Few was formed in 2010 by members of Knoxville bands, Vertigo and Thoroughfare. The band consists of Lindsey Stamey (vocals), Seth Rowlette (guitars), Thomas Boyd (bass), Colin Cunningham (drums), and Cameron Cunningham (keys). Recent design work for the band was done by Daniel Wiseman Design and photos were by Longwerks Commercial Studios. They are currently recording their first studio album with Travis Wyrick of Lakeside Recording Studios.
