JavaBeats.FM

javaBeats.FM is an Internet radio station based in Tampa, FL, specializing in electronic dance music genres. The station allows its listeners to create the playlist via a request system. Requests are made in real-time on a first come, first serve basis.
A faster, light-weight version of the station's website also exists for mobile users (see external links).
Design
javaBeats.FM was built as a two-piece system, the front-end (website) and back-end (radio station). The back-end was developed using the free SHOUTcast platform. Other technologies used in development include Winamp, XML, PHP, Apache HTTP Server, .NET Framework, and MySQL.
Since the radio station is external from the website, 3rd party services can be developed to integrate directly into the back-end. Functionality such as requesting tracks or viewing the library are directly accessible without the use of the website.
History
The javaBeats.FM radio station was originally known as DJ Java's 24/7 Mix Marathon which only played mixes compiled by DJ Java, as well as DJ Doboy mixes. The station was started in 2007 while the Copyright Royalty Board was awaiting to make a decision about royalty rates. On May 1, 2007, the Internet Radio Equality Act took effect and allowed small broadcasters to continue.
During that time, the javaBeats.FM radio station was being developed and was finished in early 2008. Since the beginning, javaBeats.FM has reached position #38 (as of March 2009) in the SHOUTcast TTSL report.
Community
The javaBeats.FM website also hosts forums for discussion about the radio station and the tracks library. Members are allowed to contribute to the community by providing their own knowledge and feedback.
Members are also allowed to upload their own mp3 files for inclusion into the library.
