James Normington

James Adam Normington (born 5 October 1980) is a barrister working from Chambers in Leeds, West Yorkshire. He is the Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Sleaford & North Hykeham constituency.
He joined the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve and served for a period of 9 years. He is a graduate of the University of St Andrews, and the Royal Air Force College Cranwell.
He speaks a number of foreign languages including French, German and Arabic.
Early life
Normington was born at St James Hospital, Leeds, West Yorkshire on 5 October 1980. He attended Woodlesford Primary School before attending Royds Comprehensive School, Oulton. He then went up to the University of St Andrews where he studied history, and was part of the team from St Andrews that scored the second-worst performance ever on the BBC quiz programme University Challenge.
Life at the bar
Normington practise from Park Court Chambers, Leeds. His practice covers property disputes, commercial, trusts, and housing law. .
Normington has authored a number of articles. Some of the most recent subjects include Chancel Repair Liability, Transatlantic Judgement Enforcement and Trusts of Land.
Normington is a member of the Honourable Society of the Inner Temple.
Political life
He joined the Labour Party at the age of 17, and has been active in politics at both a local and a national level. Most recently Normington was present at a dinner with the Minister for the Environment Hilary Benn.
In June 2008 Normington was selected as the Labour candidate for the Parliamentary seat of Sleaford & North Hykeham.
Whilst at the University of St Andrews, Normington unsuccessfully ran for the position of Senior Student whist resident at St Salvators Hall. He also unsuccessfully ran for University President during which he was embroiled in a vote-rigging scandal.
Normington is a member of the Co-operative Party, committed to the Fair Trade campaign. Normington is also member of the Fabian Society.
Community work
Normington is a trustee of the Mechanics Institute, Rothwell, a charity which provides community facilities for the local community including youth groups and groups for the disabled. The charity also provides financial support for local students and apprentices.
Normington has also been appointed to the board of Governors at Rothwell Victoria Primary School. He previously served as a governor at Carlton Primary and Langdale Primary Schools.
