Colonel James E. Sabow was a United States Marine Corps Colonel who was shot dead on January 22, 1991 at the Marine Corps Air Station El Toro family quarters in California. Background The office of the inspector general of the marine corps (ICMG) was investigating the new chief of staff James Sabow for the alleged misuse of military aircraft by some high-ranking military officers, which was brought to the attention of Department of Defense by an anonymous tip. The next day he was found lying on the floor in his quarters, with a shotgun wound to the mouth; his death was declared a suicide by three different investigations from the Naval Investigative Services (NIS) and the Office of the Judge of Advocates General (JAG). However, his brother Dr. John Sabow (a neurosurgeon) and wife refused to believe the suicide ruling and accused the military of foul play as no fingerprints where found on the shotgun. |
