Admiral Kolhammer

In the Axis of Time trilogy by John Birmingham, Admiral Phillip Kolhammer, USN is the Commander of UNPROFLEET, an American-led Multinational Taskforce built around the George Bush-Class Supercarrier USS Hillary Clinton (he became Acting Commander of this ship when her captain died during the course of the first novel), authorised by United Nations Security Council Resolution 3312. He was born in 1969.

When the Taskforce was sent back in time to World War II, Admiral Kolhammer is in charge of talking to the 'temps', that is, the 1942 personnel. President Roosevelt forces a bill through the United States Congress, creating a , in California's San Fernando Valley, and Admiral Kolhammer is made the Commandant of the Special Administrative Zone, in which the citizens are Subject to the laws of the United States of America, and her Uniform Code of Military Justice, exactly as they existed on the morning of 15 January 2021 - p.22, Designated Targets, John Birmingham, 2005

Admiral Kolhammer is assisted in the Zone by his Deputy Commandant, Lt. Colonel Guisti and the 'temp Commander Dan Black who acted in a liaison mode with the locals.

On the 2021 side of the Transition, he has left behind a wife of many years, Marie. They had lost a son in unknown circumstances near Taiwan. Previous postings included stints as both Deputy Administrator and UN Administrator of the Chechen Republic after winning its independence from the Russian Federation

John Birmingham has said that if the Axis of Time series were to be turned into a movie he would prefer Don S Davis to play the character of Kolhammer.
