James Broadwater

James Broadwater is an American author, small business owner, ordained Southern Baptist minister, and statesman from Mississippi. He is running for Governor of Mississippi in the 2011 elections on the Republican ticket. His candidacy is notable for his promotion of a "Mississippi FairTax" - his own adaptation of the proposed federal "FairTax," for his strong stance against illegal immigration, and for his stated desire to bring persecuted Christians from around the world to live in America, as well as his strong stands for life, marriage and family, gun rights, property rights, and parental rights. His Mississippi FairTax would eliminate 74 of the 75 taxes collected by the State of Mississippi, reduce the state sales tax to five percent, and close down the Mississippi Department of Revenue, moving some employees of that agency to the State Treasurer's office to collect the sales tax and redistribute the portion due to municipalities, etc. He is noted for saying that to stop illegal immigration, he would "use all the means at our disposal, including the National Guard, Department of Public Safety, Highway Patrol, SWAT teams, snipers, K-9 units, the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics, and the Civil Air Patrol." He is author of the book, A New Day in Mississippi, The Corruption In Our Government, and What We Can Do About It In 2011 (Durham, CT: Strategic Book Publishing, 2011), available here: A New Day in Mississippi. His campaign's website is located here.
