The Baroda-Lake Township Police Department began using a drug sniffing K9 police dog in October 2009, particularly to combat drug trafficking on Interstate 94. On his first day of work, "Elmo" was responsible for a civil forfeiture in the amount of $16,014. This was a great feat considering that Elmo only cost the department $17,000. In the same month, Elmo was responsible for an additional seizure in the amount of $90,035.
