Jaison Morgan

Jaison Morgan is Founder and Managing Principal of The Common Pool, a global consulting firm that specializes in prize competitions, challenges, and other forms of incentive-based programming. Jaison has a history of working with incentives, recognized by the BBC as “the world’s expert” in designing prizes to drive innovative breakthroughs.
Education
Jaison began studying incentive theory and the use of reward systems in graduate school at the University of Chicago. After graduate school, he served as a Senior Policy Advisor in the Mayor’s Office, designing public programs for Chicago families in schools, parks, and libraries. Each of those programs included both cash and non-financial rewards.
Career
Jaison served as the head of prize development for the X PRIZE Foundation, where he led teams to deliver multiple cash bounties of $10 million or more for solutions to common causes. He later helped establish a lab at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology to study how targeted rewards can be used to induce new approaches to engineering challenges.
After founding The Common Pool, Jaison and his team contributed to the academic and institutional record for tracking best practices. The team also formulated case studies related to demonstration prizes in the seminal study of philanthropic prizes published by McKinsey & Company, and has published widely on a range of prize typologies and best practices in prize design.
Jaison and The Common Pool team have worked with the National Geographic Society, the U.S. Department of Commerce, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Google, the Government of Scotland, the Government of the United Arab Emirates, the Open Government Partnership, and over fourteen other foundations, philanthropists, and government agencies. Since its founding in 2009, The Common Pool has been responsible for the design, development and/or management of prizes ranging from $25 million to $3,000 or less (USD).
Jaison Morgan continues to manage The Common Pool, leading all business development and leadership initiatives. He frequently lectures on the subject of “Incentive Engineering”.
